VLT – Visible Light Transmission
VLT is a measurement that specifies the percentage of light coming through the lens and reaching your eyes. A totally clear lens for dark conditions typically has around 90% VLT and a very dark colored lens with mirror for sunny conditions may have down to 10% VLT. Most lenses will be found between 30 to 60%.

Anti-Scratch Coating
Anti-scratch coatings are made of microparticles that are naturally hard. The extent of the coating’s protection is typically determined by its hardness value. Anti-scratch coatings work by reducing three parameters that contribute to scratching in prescription frames: microcracking, ironing, and friction. The coating makes the surface smoother, thereby reducing friction, and increasing the amount of force needed to scratch a material. To reduce ironing – a product of elastic deformations -, the coating decreases elasticity and increases ductility. The decrease of elasticity must be balanced, though, as it can cause microcracking – which the coating also compensates for by including additives with high tensile strength.
